The things people ask for most often.

Most of these you can do yourself in under five minutes. If you would rather we handle it, say the word and we will send the form pre-filled.

Common Requests
  • Change your address, phone, or email Log in to your custodian and open your profile. Tell us as well so our records match.
  • Update a beneficiary Available in your custodian profile. Worth confirming every time a life event happens, because this designation overrides your will.
  • Request a distribution or transfer Contact us first so we can raise cash and check the tax consequence before anything is sold.
  • Set up a recurring transfer One-time paperwork, then it runs on schedule. Ask us and we will send it.
  • Add a trusted contact or authorized user A trusted contact lets your custodian reach someone if they cannot reach you. We recommend every client name one.
  • Go paperless Set delivery preferences in your custodian profile. Fewer envelopes, and far less mail with your account number on it.
  • Download statements and tax forms Available in your custodian portal, usually going back several years.
Tax Document Calendar
  • Late Jan 1099-R: distributions from IRAs and retirement accounts.
  • Late Jan – Mid Feb 1099 Consolidated: brokerage income and realized gains. Custodians release these in waves, so a later date does not mean a problem.
  • Feb – Mar Corrected 1099s: issued when a fund reclassifies a distribution. Common, and a reason not to file the moment your first form arrives.
  • Mar – Sep Schedule K-1: partnerships and certain alternatives. These are the usual cause of an extension.
  • By May 31 Form 5498: IRA contributions and year-end values. Informational; it arrives after you file.

How your money is protected.

The Structure
  • Your assets are custodied, not held by us Schwab, Fidelity, and LPL hold the accounts, in your name. Capitol Family Office never takes possession of your money.
  • We can advise and trade. Only you can move money Our authority is limited. Every distribution to a third party requires your approval, directly with your custodian.
  • You see the same data we do Statements and confirms come to you from the custodian, independently of anything we send.
  • SEC Registered, and a fiduciary on every recommendation No proprietary products. One fee, agreed in advance.
If Something Feels Wrong

Stop and call us. We will never text you. If you get a text that claims to be from Capitol Family Office, it isn’t. Delete it.

We do ask you to move money, usually by e-signature and sometimes by email. Those requests follow a conversation you remember having with us. If a request for money or credentials shows up cold, or anything about it feels off, don’t reply and don’t click. Call us at the number you already have, and we’ll tell you in ten seconds whether it was ours.

And when you call in, expect us to ask a few questions before we discuss your accounts. That’s us making sure we’re talking to you, and nobody else.
